Athletes rise to challenge at local race

SPECIAL TO THE UNION-TRIBUNEJust past dawn at La Jolla Cove, actor David James Elliott exchanged greetings with his relay teammate Emmanuel Ofosu Yeboah ahead of the 12th annual San Diego Triathon Challenge yesterday.
"Look," an onlooker said, "a TV star and a movie star."
Elliott starred in the long-running television series JAG. Yeboah is the subject of "Emmanuel's Gift," a movie now in limited release, based on his life as a challenged athlete who brought enlightenment to his native Ghana about people who are physically challenged.
This marked the second time at this event for Elliott, who competed in the Ironman Triathon two weeks earlier in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
"I just hope that I don't embarrass myself in the swim," said Elliott, who would do the first leg of the relay. "These guys are pretty amazing athletes."
