Access Hollywood

November 1997

DJE

Access Hollywood: He's TV's Top Gun. David James Elliott, star of the popular CBS series JAG.

[showed a clip from King of the Fleas]

AH: Well this fast-flying military man grounded himself just for Access Hollywood. And he's taking us on a tour of his country-style home.

David James Elliott: Hey, this is Access Hollywood! Hi, I'm David. Come into my home.

DJE

AH: But don't get your hopes up, ladies. David's only a bachelor on TV. He shares this Brentwood home with his actress wife Nanci, and their daughter Stephanie. The Elliotts designed their home with a warm country feel and the cosiness is featured in this month's issue of InStyle magazine.

DJE and Nanci

Now decorating the house was a breeze. It was buying it that sent the JAG star soaring.

DJE: I was wracked with fears spending that kind of money. I mean, having been a starving artist for so many years ...You don't really ...

Nanci: And it comes and goes ...

DJE and Nanci

DJE: I was afraid to buy a car.

Nanci: Yeah, we were afraid.

AH: But they got the house, the car, and oh yeah! the pool.

DJE: I love it. It's comfortable. And I like the fact that it has a big yard and a pool. I always wanted a pool. So I have all the stuff that I wanted.

AH: He's certainly a man of action ... even managed to get the Pacific Ocean in his back yard.

DJE pointing at mural

DJE: Look at that ... mural! [mural of the ocean]. We have an ocean-side view... in Brentwood! [joking]

AH: But David's favourite room in the house might just be the kitchen.

Nanci: He's a great cook ... I wouldn't even ... well, I did attempt once to cook many years ago. ... We won't go into that story.

DJE: [chuckles]

AH: Well, Nanci might not be the master chef, but she does do a great job decorating their home with antiques she has discovered all over the world.

Nanci: This we got in Italy [showing a bowl] that David broke on the way home in the airport. This we got in South Africa ... these are just little pâté things ... kind of antiques ...

AH: And then there are other antiques that were found closer to home.

Nanci and Floyd

Nanci: This is an antique lace pillow that my great-grandmother made. This is Floyd. [holding a stuffed reddish dog] ... it's the first thing he ever bought me ...

DJE: She wanted a real one ...

Nanci: I wanted a real one ... but he didn't want to make that much of a commitment.

DJE playing guitar

AH: Well he seems to be committed now, to his family, his career as an actor and even to music.

DJE: I love music and I'm sort of going back to it these days. My Dad used to play guitar for us when we were growing up. I try to do it ... when Stephanie's in the bathtub or something ... play some stuff for her.

AH: What a catch you are, David! Thanks for the tour!

DJE on swing

DJE and Nanci

DJE: See you later, Access Hollywood!

Nanci: 'Bye, Access Hollywood!
