Holiday Affair
This 1996 made-for-television movie is a remake of the 1949 classic starring Robert Mitchum and Janet Leigh. DJE played the role of Steve Mason, an idealistic young stockbroker who decided that there was more to life than material wealth. He quit his job, and was working as a salesman in the toy department when Jodie (Cynthia Gibb), comes looking for a toy train for her advertising company two days before Christmas. Jodie is a widow with a young son (Tim), and a lawyer suitor (Paul). Steve falls in love with Jodie, but she is looking for security, and decides to accept Paul's marriage proposal instead of taking a chance on Steve. However, fate keeps intervening to keep Steve in Jodie's life. With some heartfelt advice from both Tim and Paul, Jodie finally decides to follow her heart.

Jodie returns the train ... Steve gives her a refund, against store policy and gets fired ... he bumps into her in another department of the store and convinces her she should take him to lunch since she got him fired for giving her the refund.
After 'lunch' Steve helps Jodie with some shopping ... they get separated in the subway crowd ...
Steve manages to find out Jodie's address and goes to her apartment ... Paul, Jodie's boyfriend is there ...
Jodie and Paul have a disagreement over Tim, Jodie's son, and Paul leaves ... Steve stays ...
Christmas morning, Jodie goes looking for Steve because he left a train for Tim. She finds him in the park.
Steve is mistaken as a thief when an older couple in the park are robbed and Steve has the 'salt and pepper shakers' that were stolen ... the police go to Jodie's apt. to check out Steve's story ... the Investigator on duty, recognising the 'situation' invites Steve to dinner at Jodie's - how can she say no? Steve then asks Jodie to marry him instead of Paul.
Tim, not understanding the whole situation, decides he should return the train in order to give Steve his money back. When Jodie goes to return the money to Steve, Paul confronts her about her feeling for Steve. Jodie still does not want to face them.
After much contemplation and some very wise words from her son ... Jodie and Tim go after Steve ... they just make the midnight train.
