InStyle: Seven years ago David James Elliott and Nanci Chambers were deeply in love, but a bit short in money. They would exchange vows in a California civil court and spend what they had on a marriage licence and two tickets to a movie - their honeymoon. But they made a promise to each other that some day, they'd have a high-style wedding.

Nanci Chambers: We had no rings.

David James Elliott: We had nothing.

Nanci: We had no flowers.

David: We were destitute.

Nanci: We had nothing. [laughing]

David: Nothing.

InStyle: Then their fortunes soared. David became a star of the hit series JAG on which Nanci also appears. Finally they could afford their dream wedding.

Nanci: I wanted to have a day. I wanted to celebrate it in front of friends and family and God and have a real union. It never felt completely done to me. I felt robbed ... [to David] and I think you definitely ... we felt robbed of that day, of that magic.
