TV's 16 Sexiest Stars

August 7, 1999

When David James Elliott steps into those khakis to play upstanding Navy lawyer Harm Rabb on CBS's JAG, he's playing pretty close to type. "Harm has a sense of humor, and he's not afraid of risks," says Elliott, who likes to laugh and never turns away from a challenge. The Toronto native cites such courtly heros as Jimmy Stewart and Robert Mitchum as his role models. "Being a gentleman is a lost art, but it's also really sexy," says the actor, who recently renewed his vows to his wife of seven years, actress Nanci Chambers. "Chivalry is not dead with me." Not that Elliott always had a way with women. Tall and gangly in high school, he says, "I had a hard time getting dates." Costar Catherine Bell can't understand why. "David is a total romantic," she says. "And his good-guy appeal is really attractive to women."
