David James Elliott was singing with a small Canadian rock band when he read Shakespeare's King Lear and decided to try acting. He was 19 years old. He attended Ryerson Polytechnic Institute (the Canadian drama school) in 1983 and from there, he went to the Stratford Shakespearean Festival (Ontario) where he was chosen the Most Promising Actor.
Soon after he decided to take a chance in the United States and was in the series Street Legal (1985). [Street Legal was a Canadian series and it was after his successful stint there that DJE went to the USA.] He played Terry Parsons on Melrose Place (1992), but feels his small role as a furniture mover in an episode of the sitcom Seinfeld launched his career. He had guest-starring roles in these series: Doogie Howser, M.D., China Beach, The Hitchhiker, Dark Justice, Knots Landing and The Untouchables. In 1995 he won the starring role in a new series produced by Donald P.
