My DJE Story

Saturday, February 5, 2000 - Poppy Hills
lining up a putt Finally, a different golf course after two days at Spyglass! Poppy Hills is a different type of course and a different challenge to the golfers. Poppy is longer and narrower than Spyglass, so your shots need to be more accurate. Neither DJE nor Paul was playing any better, and near the end of the front nine DJE seemed to be looking for someone.

Nanci and Stephanie were waiting at the 10th hole when DJE's foursome arrived to tee off on the back nine. I did not try to speak to either of them. I knew that Nanci and Stephanie would be around for the rest of that day and the next, so I knew at some point or other that I would get to say a quick hello. I took a few pictures of DJE and his family, and left the camera hanging around my neck, even though I knew I was not supposed to have the camera on the course. I know the etiquette, and I never take pictures while they are playing, so I felt safe.

Between the 17th green and the 18th tee I noticed I had 3 pictures left on the roll, so I took a few pictures, as the players were finishing up on the green. I made sure I was far enough away to not disturb them, and used a telephoto lens. At the end of the day I decided to take my film in to a one-hour photo place and see if I might have a good picture of DJE that I would try to get him to autograph.
